Giving Thanks...for Family and for Timmy...

Thanksgiving this year was a bit different than in years past.  Because of many factors, including dementia and his inability to walk and get up on his own, my Pap pap has been in a nursing home since the beginning of August. Because of this, we had to celebrate the holidays outside of our own homes for the first time ever.  Calvary Homes hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for the residents and their families.  Although I missed having a few of my mother's traditional Thanksgiving dishes, it was great to be together as a family to celebrate the holiday.

To say that Grandma has had a difficult time adjusting to Pap pap being in the nursing home is an understatement to say the least.  She is overcome with guilt and misses him tremendously (after all, they've been married for over 69 years...June 16th will mark their 70th anniversary!!!).

As a family, we decided that a pet would be a great companion to help ease Grandma's loneliness.  So, George, his daughter, Anna, and I went on the hunt to find the perfect kitty cat for Grandma.  We ended up adopting a spry and frisky black & white tuxedo cat named Timmy.  He is adorable, but he definitely has a  devilish streak!  Although Grandma was a bit hesitant to take on the responsibility of a pet again after all these years, she is now madly in love with Timmy and really seems to enjoy sharing in the joy of his crazy antics!
